The Armor of God
"Finally, be strong in the Lord in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." - Ephesians 6:10-12 (NIV)
I experienced real spiritual warfare in the past few days. It was frightening, and yet I was reminded by a verse I will paraphrase here: "Do not fear when evil seems to prevail, remember that you have the strength of the Lord, and there is no need to worry: you can call upon him, "Abba, Father!" --And God answered me in a miraculous way, using the knowledge and encouragement of a friend I happened to call. We and those who saw God's hand in all that transpired praised God with me.
Another scripture shared today was from a dear friend Luis. From Jeremiah 17: 7-8: "Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is in the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes. For its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit."
There are five basic truths about spiritual warfare:
1. There is an invisible world.
2. We are involved in an invisible war.
3. Our foe is formidable.
4. We must respect our foe but not fear him.
5. We do not fight for victory; we fight from victory!
Know the truth (Eph. 6:10); Prepare for battle--put on the whole armor of God (Eph. 6:11); Our struggle is against a hierarchy of demonic forces doing battle in the spiritual realm (Eph. 6:12). It is NOT a fight against people, circumstances and organizations!
Remember: Satan is a defeated foe. (John 12:31); Jesus destroyed the works of the devil (Col. 2:14-15); We are victors in Christ (I Cor. 15:55-57); We have the power and resources to resist Satan and demonic attacks. (I John 4:4); and we must learn to put on the full armor of God to experience in daily living the victory we already possess. (Eph. 6:13:17).
Praise God! He has already defeated our foe! Live in that truth and respond in faith to His Word.
